When times were most challenging during 2021, ongoing communication produced employee comfort for Matick Automotive Group, says Molly Williams, chief operating officer. And in the process her company earned the No. 3 ranking among midsize companies in the Detroit Free Press Top Workplaces competition.

“Paul Zimmermann (vice president/partner-owner) and I did videos regularly to let our team members know what we were doing and why, to maintain a clean, safe workplace,” Williams said.
“The videos allowed us to keep up with our team in real time, which has been critical to our success. We want to be a place where our employees and customers feel comfortable about coming in and feel better about their day when they leave, and timely communication helped us to accomplish that goal on the employee side.”
Williams explained that the company’s commitment to communication also promotes trust and cooperation among her team members.
“We have a great group of people and when we needed to roll out new rules and guidelines our team was able to adjust and adapt quickly and willingly,” said Williams, who described instances during the pandemic when safety compliance changes had to be made with only a day’s notice. “Our team members had the courage and willingness to come to work when a lot of people were at home. I am proud and grateful for our team; my inspiration comes from this group.”
Williams continued her praise by referring to her team as “frontline workers” because of their importance to the lives of the people they serve.
“People need their cars and they take it for granted that they can get their cars fixed when needed,” said Williams, whose company operates George Matick Chevrolet and Mattick Auto Wash in Redford Township, along with Matick Toyota in Macomb Township.
“At Matick Automotive we have a group of people that are here to serve the needs of our customers, so our customers can get back to work. And our team is willing to do this day in and day out no matter what.”
