History of Honda Bikes

Honda was founded in 1946 by Japanese native Soichiro Honda. His aim was to provide a cheap method of transportation for a growing population after the end of the Second World War.

What many people may not know is that Soichiro had started developing possible motor parts when he was still a schoolboy, with the dream of selling them on to his now competitor Toyota. With such determination Soichiro landed himself a job with Toyota after attending engineering school. He then set about building the very factory he would work in for Honda.

Soichiro’s Honda experienced many more set backs before he even really started, the factory was bombed twice and then destroyed by an earth quake. This did not halt Soichiro though and it was then with the help and cash advances from 5000 small Japanese motorcycle shops that he began to build his own engines.

The initial idea derived from the gas shortage experienced after WW2, this saw a move towards favouring smaller engines prompting Soichiro to attach a small engine to his push bike, and so the Honda bike was born.

The first bike engineered was the Honda Cub, and after the initial launch the company experienced rapid growth, so much so that in 1964 it was the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer.

Famed for his quotes, Soichiro’s catchphrase was ‘Success represents the 1% of your work which results from the 99% that is called failure.’ From the many set-backs experienced at the start of his journey it’s possible to see how he considered this applicable.

Now Honda employs over 100,000 people within the USA and Japan alone, making it one of the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturers, still. And with its continuous focus on innovation and the production of quality motorcycles it is not hard to see why Honda accessories and motorcycles have succeeded and continue to succeed to this day.
